Many individuals do not have a great perception of international students, as they are unaware of the benefits these students bring to different communities. These students contribute about 8 billion pounds to the regional and national economies in the United Kingdom. This estimation includes tuition and off campus living expenses. Extra tuition money paid by international students is used to improve old and build new facilities, which benefits all students. Foreign students also help to support academic research, in the subjects of science, math and engineering. In the United Kingdom, it is estimated that the 45% of the postgraduates are international students; therefore much academic research would not be possible without them.
International students not only bring in money but also a diverse educational experience to an institution. Many local students are choosing universities based on how multicultural the student body is, as they are attracted to meet people from all over the world. The diversity the foreign students bring to the campus provides local students a broader experience of life by learning along students from all over the world. This not only widens the cultural awareness in society but local students gain new perspectives and improve social skills.
